Marks Percentage Calculator
Enter the marks you got and the total marks for each subject to find your overall percentage. Use one row for a single exam, or one row per subject.
The percentage is shown to two decimal places. Boards and universities may round differently or use their own grade tables, so check your official result.
How it works
The calculator adds up all the marks you obtained and all the total marks, then divides one by the other. Adding the marks first is the correct way to get an overall percentage. Averaging the percentages of each subject gives a different answer when the subjects have different total marks.
Formula
Percentage = (total marks obtained ÷ total marks) × 100
Steps to use it
- Enter your marks and the total marks for the first subject.
- Press Add subject for each extra subject.
- Press Calculate percentage.
Examples
| Marks | Percentage |

Frequently asked questions
Why not average the subject percentages?
Because subjects can have different total marks. A subject out of 75 should count for less than one out of 100. Adding the marks first avoids that error.
Can my marks be higher than the total?
No. The calculator shows an error if the marks obtained are more than the total marks for a row.
Does this give my grade?
No. Grade tables differ between boards and universities, so use your official grading scheme. For a university GPA, use our GPA and CGPA Calculator.
Is this an official result?
No. It is a calculation tool. See our Terms and Disclaimer and How We Test pages.
